QR API and MCP server, with file hosting for AI assistants

Pro accounts can make QR codes from their own code with the QR API, or ask an AI assistant like Claude Code or Cursor to make them. Assistants can now host a file for a QR code too.

The full docs are under API in the top bar.

QR API

POST /api/v1/qr returns the same PNG or SVG file that Download makes in the editor. Send your link or text, plus a template or your own design, and you get back the finished file.

Create a key under API keys in the account menu. Pro includes 10,000 requests a month. The API keys page shows how many you have used.

MCP server for AI assistants

Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code and other assistants can connect to Pretty QR at https://pretty-qr.com/api/mcp with the same API key. For Claude Code:

claude mcp add --transport http pretty-qr https://pretty-qr.com/api/mcp \
  --header "Authorization: Bearer $PRETTY_QR_KEY"

Then ask in plain words, for example "make a QR code for our menu with the banner template". The assistant can:

  • list the templates, with a preview of each;
  • make a QR code and give you the PNG or SVG;
  • save it as a design you can keep editing, in My designs.

Host a file from your assistant

Ask your assistant to "host ./menu.pdf and make a QR code for it", and it uploads the file for you. The file gets its own page on Pretty QR, and the QR code opens it.

Uploads from an assistant follow the same rules as uploads in the editor: photos, videos, audio files and PDFs, up to 10 hosted files per account. They show up under Hosted files in My designs, where you can replace or delete them.
